🙏 Why subscribe?

I’m sitting next to you in class in middle school and just passed you a note saying “should I keep writing things online?” Your turn to circle yes or no!

In an effort to not be bogged down by the weighty hand of late stage capitalism, I am re-entering my gig-era. In these early stages, I’m just hoping to build up a (free!) subscriber base, so you hitting that subscribe now button is simply an affirmation that publishing my writing online is a good use of my time these days. (Circle yes, please!)

đŸ§™â€â™€ïž Who the heck am I?

Hi, I’m Addie (she/her)! I’m an ordained Presbyterian minister, trained movement chaplain, and I like to write a lot and never publish it. (Working on that.) I’m also a parent, a reader, and an avid TV watcher. I used to have a lot of weird pets and that made up 90% of my personality. Now I guess I have to be an interesting writer.

This Substack is a collective of my sermons and neurodiverse musings on abolition, queering God, stamina for Palestine, parenting as the world is falling apart, and finding abundance amidst those realities. For some reason, I’m invested in the future of the Christian church, and I believe that if the church is to be a community that matters, we must build up spaces that address theological trauma and anti-racism. I like to lift up queer abundance and Jesus’ rebellious message. I’ve lived in rural, urban, and exurban spaces in this huge, colonial enterprise we call the U.S. and I’m trying my best to be accountable to the people I love.

I am the co-chair of the Hosanna Preaching Project and I serve on the Steering Committee of the Palestine Justice Network of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the board of More Light Presbyterians (whose mission is to equip individuals and congregations to live into their welcome for LGBTQIA+ people in the PC(USA).) My writings and interviews have been published in Unbound, The Center for Barth Studies, and The Presbyterian Mission Agency. You can find some of my panelist contributions on the topic of the church’s responsibility to respond swiftly to Christian Zionism and Israel apartheid here, here, and here. I am an avid student of the works of James Baldwin, Octavia Butler, and adrienne maree brown. If you were my friend IRL, you’d hear me talking a lot about abolitionist parenting and how I get annoyed when the same people who cheer on resistance fighters in sci fi and fantasy media condemn them in real life.

I am known to purchase on-the-verge-of-death plants and I travel so much my bathroom bag is always packed. I live with my spouse (a very cool astronomer for NASA) in Washington state with my toddler, my black cat Bissa, and my grumpy turtle. (And yes our kid is named after Carl Sagan.)
